Crane Composites Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Liner and exterior
products are becoming widely accepted as a replacement for stainless steel
in refrigerated seagoing containers.
The cost of a new container is nearing record highs;
extending the useful life of veteran containers can be a cost effective and extremely attractive alternative.
Before:
Overtime, stainless steel liners become worn, showing a buildup of wear; many experience delamination issues. The appearance of a container directly correlates to how much revenue it will generate. When a container is aesthetically unpleasing, it will remain unused, thus increasing the cost to store the container and decreasing potential profitability. This is a common setback among stainless steel containers.
On average, a stainless steel container has a life cycle of about twelve years. Replacing the container liner can extend the life of the container for another five years. Replacing the exterior of the container will provide a more appealing aesthetic appearance, increasing the potential use and profitability of the container.
After
Replacing a delaminated and highly worn stainless steel liner and/or exterior with Crane’s lighter, easier to clean and more damage resistant FRP materials will return the interior appearance to pristine condition. When the cosmetic appearance of your containers is improved, the number of revenue loads can also be increased.
Crane offers products and certified refurbishing locations to renew container lining and exterior panels. Replacing the container liner results in approximately 30 incremental revenue loads, based on average revenue per load of $3,000, an extended life of five years would create an additional income of $90,000. The cost of refurbishing would be less than 5% of that amount.
