Qualis was formed in August of 1989 for the purpose of embossing film for the frp industry. The embossing equipment was purchased from Ornyte Corporation at the time that Sequentia Corporation bought Ornyte. The embosser was moved from California to Henderson, KY. The location of Henderson provided easy access to major interstates, and was a central location for supply to three main customers in Florence, KY, Grandview, MO, and Grand Junction, TN. It also provided a ready workforce, and low utility and tax rates.
Qualis immediately changed the landscape of embossed film supply in the frp industry. Offering “one price delivered” merchandise, warranted against defects, with unparalleled customer service, Qualis quickly became the majority provider of embossed polyester film to frp manufacturers. Working hand in hand with ICI Films, Qualis helped establish a polyester film that would function in more panel applications, displacing volumes of embossed cellophane and nylon.
In 1991, Qualis purchased a second embossing machine from ICI Films, effectively removing ICI from the embossing business, and cementing Qualis' position as a strategic partner.
Qualis became known as a resource for products other than polyester throughout ICI, and soon DuPont. Over the next few years, Qualis added two new textures to their portfolio, and began producing for the electronic circuit board industry and the window shade industry. The product for the circuit board industry also required Qualis to add a slitting machine to the operation.
In January 2000, Qualis was sold to a group of investors, and in November of 2002, this group sold the business to Kemlite Company, Inc., A Crane Co. company. Crane Co. is a diversified manufacturer of engineered industry. Phone: 270.826.0059
